PS4’s skate game, The Skate Spot, has sold almost three million copies worldwide, according to a report from UK gaming site GameInformer.
The game is the only major video game platform to have sold that many copies in the same month.
“The Skates Station” is the second major video games platform to break the million-selling barrier, following Sony’s launch of the “The Walking Dead” game last year.
The Skates Spot was released in the United Kingdom last November.
The Skaters Station was a sequel to the game, Skate Arcade, released last year, and is set to launch in the UK next month.
“The Skater Station” was a reboot of the Skate Shop franchise that was popular in the 1990s and 2000s, and featured skateboarding, aerial skating, freestyle skates and other elements from the genre.
“In an industry full of retro-futuristic titles like ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘The Matrix,’ it was refreshing to see a brand-new, contemporary take on skateboarding that featured something new and fresh,” GameInformal’s Matthew Taylor wrote.
Sony’s “The Walk” is an action game that follows a group of teens who must escape a zombie apocalypse.
The franchise has sold more than 200 million copies and has been translated into over 60 languages, according a 2015 survey from Comscore.
A recent study by Pew Research Center found that the most popular games on the PS4 are not “games with a clear idea of how they will be used in the real world.”
The study noted that “games that can be used to get people to engage with the game are popular and are a great way to start a conversation,” but that “those games are generally not necessarily the most relevant for users who are playing them, as they don’t involve much action, interact with people, and generally aren’t very fun.”
