Now that you’ve read our tips on building a snowboard and how to build snowmen for Halloween, let’s talk about the API and how it can be used to build one.
When building a map using Google Maps, you need to set the following parameters to get started:The parameters are very similar to those for Google Maps Desktop but you’ll notice that Google Maps is slightly different.
In this example, we’re going to set all the parameters to the values from the Google Map Desktop, which is why it takes a bit longer to get to the actual map screen.
The first parameter is the name of the map, the second parameter is a latitude and longitude of the location, and the third parameter is an elevation, which we’re setting to 90 degrees and is the elevation from our house.
These are the default values you’ll see on Google Maps.
The parameters you’ll want to set are the same values you see in the Google Desktop map, but we’ve added a few more parameters to give it a snowier look.
The elevation parameter is also set to 90, so if you look at the image above, you’ll know that we’re using a bit of a steep slope.
The third parameter we’re getting from the Desktop map is a snowflake icon to indicate that it’s a snowed in area.
We’re setting this to a light gray.
This is what the map looks like when you’ve got it all set up.
Now that we’ve got the parameters set, we can create the map by clicking on the icon to the left of the coordinates.
You can set the coordinates and the elevation to get a sense of how high you can go on the map.
In the example above, we set the elevation at 180 degrees.
In order to get an elevation of 90 degrees, we’d need to hit the button that says “Snowflake.”
You can click the snowflake to make it a real snowflake.
The map is now complete!
We can save it and go back to the desktop map.
This time, we’ve set the snow level at 0 degrees and the snowflakes are real!
We’re all set!
Here’s how we can use the APIs in order to make our own snowmen.
Create a map and use the API to generate the iconsWe can use an API called Google Maps Surface API to create a map that looks like the following.
It’s a great example of how Google Maps can be easily integrated into the iOS app.
First, open the GoogleMaps app and go to the Maps tab.
Then, click the Maps icon and select the Surface API.
You’ll see that it has a list of all the map icons and you can use a mouse to scroll through them.
We want to draw a snow globe on a map, so let’s open a new sketch and start by drawing a snowy outline.
Open a new drawing and draw a simple snow globe.
The sketch is still sketching, but the map has been updated.
We can move the outline around by dragging it to the right to create new lines.
Now we’re just going to make the outline darker so that it reflects the light from the snow.
This sketch has a nice snowflake on the top and a dark outline on the bottom.
We can also draw a few snowflares to add some variation to the outline.
The final sketch is very close to what we want.
We just want to make a few changes to the background so that we get a snow-covered image that’s easier to see when we’re looking at the map from the outside.
Open the map again and draw the outline as before.
The sketch is done!
The outline is now a snow sphere.
This snow sphere has a bit more snow on top, but it’s not quite a perfect snowflake as it’s still missing a few spots.
Let’s try some real snow to see how it looks.
Open up the GoogleMap app again and select an icon to open the map and then click the Map icon.
You should see a list called Maps that shows the map you’re on.
Select the icon for a snow cone and select it.
This should create a snow cube that’s roughly the same size as the outline in the sketch.
We’re almost there!
Now let’s create the snowman.
Open your sketch in Sketch and add a few new snowflas to make sure the outline stays right.
You’ll want the snow to look a little darker, so you can see where we’ve left a few pixels of snow on the snowcone.
Open it up in a new layer and draw an outline using the mouse.
This time, the outline is also drawn using the right mouse button.
You can now remove some of the snow from the surface by dragging the outline to the side.
Now let’s add some snowflashes.
Open Sketch and create a new snowflake and use your mouse to move it around.
You want to use your right mouse to highlight the snow, so
