With the new season kicking off, Italy’s squad is preparing to face Germany in a pre-World Cup qualifier in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
The Italian media have already announced that a number of the squad will be wearing electric skateboards, but there has been no official confirmation from the Italian Football Association about whether this will be the case for the game.
“It’s a special day for us and it will be a very special occasion,” said former goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
“It’s one of those days when you are excited, and you know that this will not be a normal game.”
A few players are known to be using electric skateboarding, with former Milan and AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci using his electric skateboard in a friendly against Bologna.
Bonucci has also used a customised electric skate for his training.
Meanwhile, Italy coach Gianlui Buffon has not ruled out the use of electric skate boards in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, saying that they would be a part of the tournament.
“You need to be careful when it comes to the use, because it will have an impact on the way we play and it’s a very important moment for us,” he said.
“We need to do it properly, but I can say that I think that this is a very good idea for the future.”
