— When it comes to the summer sun, the sand is the limit.
But for one Florida girl who’s found an unusual way to dance to it — by riding her skateboard on the beach.
And it’s working.
Kayla Taylor, 15, said she recently made her first dance at a local park with friends.
She’s been using the board to dance and dance some more since.
Taylor said she’s never seen anyone dance on the water before.
But she said the board was just what she needed to get her dancing groove back.
“I think my feet just felt so good, I didn’t know how to do it before,” she said.
The beach is a popular destination for summer skaters in Florida, where more than half of the state’s population lives in homes with access to the water.
Taylor’s friends told The Associated Press that she’s been a fan of beach-based dancing since she was a little girl.
But Taylor said it wasn’t until she got older that she found the ability to perform a few different moves to her body.
The idea of dancing on the sand, she said, was something she’d never experienced.
“It’s fun to go on a beach with friends,” Taylor said.
“I’ve never been on the ocean before and I’m definitely not going to do that.
I was just a kid in a dream.”
Taylor has been a big fan of the beach for years.
She said she’d like to do more dance at the beach and to take her skateboarding career one step further.
But the idea of riding the board on the shore of the Florida Keys hasn’t gotten much traction with the community, she added.
