On January 1, 2016, the city of Philadelphia became the first in the nation to roll out the Girls Roller Skate program.
The program was designed to provide a safe environment for all women of all ages to skate.
Today, Philadelphia has more than 6,000 girls skating at local parks and skating facilities.
On January 1st, 2016 the City of Philadelphia rolled out the first Girls Roller Shops.
Now, nearly a year later, it looks like they are still going strong.
“It’s really cool, I think,” said one girl in the video.
The skate park in question is located on the Northside of Philadelphia and is located right on the riverfront.
The park is a short distance from the Southside skate park and the West Philadelphia skate park, and is one of the few locations in the city that offer skating to children.
The girls skate is a great way to get some extra exercise and to get out in nature, where they can be challenged by others in a fun and safe environment.
“We’ve really enjoyed the community outreach and community support, which really is really encouraging,” said Christina DeLuca, the executive director of the Girls in Skate Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the cause of empowering girls.
“We really feel like the community is getting behind this and really supporting this, which is really great.”
DeLuca said the skate park has been an absolute hit with young women.
“[The] kids are really enjoying it,” she said.
“There’s no doubt about it.”
DeLuca and other members of the girls skate team are currently planning on hosting more skate events throughout the year.
The program has even been welcomed by Philadelphia’s own city council.
DeLucas said the program has been a huge hit with the city’s youth.
One of the things that is really motivating for us, and we’re trying to do it as a collective, is that we feel that kids are able to come in and see that it’s safe, that it is a fun environment, and that it doesn’t feel like you’re in a place where they’re going to be in trouble, which we think is very important.
“They don’t have to go to jail,” DeLucas continued.
And we can see that.”
DeMarcus and DeLuces hope to continue to support the Girls skate program and the City’s efforts to promote safety and equality for women in the skate world.
“It was really a wonderful thing for us to be able to do something like this and be able see it working and be part of it,” DeMarcus said.
In a follow up video, DeLucae added that the program is helping to empower women in a way that she said can help other young women as well.
